About Detail Authority

Originally founded in 1987, Detail Authority was one of the first mobile detailing operations in Northern Virginia. From humble beginnings, operating from a small garage, the company rapidly expanded to multiple locations across Fairfax County along with a mobile fleet.

During this time the U.S. military had been utilizing clear tape to protect helicopter blades from damaging debris. It wasn’t until the early 90’s when the automotive industry began to adopt paint protection film (PPF) for race cars. Noticing a growing trend, Detail Authority became one of the first facilities to be trained by XPEL in 2005.

Then in 2012, XPEL revolutionized the industry with the release of the first ever self-healing paint protection film. This innovation sparked a massive shift in Detail Authority’s strategy and operations to align with new consumer demand. The company adjusted its business model to focus primarily on paint protection film along with complimentary services such as ceramic coatings and window tint.

Today, Detail Authority is a leading paint protection film install facility with over 75% of its revenue generated from the service alone.

Our Team

Dan Cohen

With two decades in the automotive industry and nearly 10 years as an XPEL certified PPF Installer, Dan brings a wealth of experience to the team. He has had the privilege of training under some of the top installers in the industry including world champion and VP of XPEL Asia, Chris West. He is also certified by XPEL in Fusion ceramic coatings and has an extensive background in paint correction.

Paul Kelyman Jr

As Operations Manager, Paul brings 13+ years of management experience, with a majority in the specialty automotive industry. Overseeing day-to-day operations, Paul is the liaison between our technicians, retail/wholesale customers, vendors, and insurance representatives. He is focused on creating an optimized customer experience and building relationships.

Rich

Rich is a highly experienced and skilled paint correction specialist and XPEL certified ceramic coating installer. For the past five years, he has contributed his expertise to Detail Authority, where he takes immense pride in his workmanship. Rich makes it a priority to ensure that every customer has an enjoyable and memorable experience entrusting their vehicle's appearance to the team.

Chantley

Chantley is a longtime car enthusiast who entered the automotive industry just three years ago. He became a member of the Detail Authority team in 2022, quickly becoming a key contributor. As an XPEL certified paint protection film installer and skilled window tinter, his dedication to his craft is evident. Chantley's work reflects his passion for cars, showcasing exceptional skill and commitment.
